Port Colborne Hospital Foundation
Founded in 1991, the Port Colborne Hospital Foundation is an independent charitable organization whose mission is to raise money and community awareness for capital equipment needs in order to maintain quality health care close to home.
We are committed to supporting our community by helping to sustain patient care services at the Port Colborne General Hospital Site of the Niagara Health System.
For over 50 years, the hospital has provided quality health care services to Port Colborne and surrounding area. Today health care facilities across Canada face a number of challenges including shortage of nursing professionals and physicians, and the rising cost of capital equipment. With the help of our local community, we can continue to provide excellent, leading-edge medical care in a warm and healing environment.
While government grants continue to provide the main source of operating funds for the hospital, funding for major capital expenditures are primarily the responsibility of our local community. It is through the generosity of our donors and friends that the Foundation is able to provide funds for specialized equipment and facilities, which would not otherwise be readily available to the hospital and community. We are fortunate that the people of this community have realized that supporting the hospital helps to ensure that it will be there for them and their families, when they need it.
Each year hospital equipment needs are reviewed by a committee of doctors, nurses and other staff to determine their priority. Through this process the NHS provides the PCHF with a “Capital Equipment” list of urgently needed equipment. All items on this list are directly related to patient care and may include a wide range of equipment needs to support patient services offered at our hospital. Right now, there are patients in the hospital that are benefiting from the purchases made with donor dollars.
